Learn the essential basics to move safely in the wilderness
INFO ABOUT THE EXPEDITION
2 to 4 days / DECEMBER TO APRIL
Winters in the Yukon can be harsh.
But that doesn’t mean life has to slow down or fall asleep.
It’s actually the perfect opportunity to leave everyday comfort behind
and dive into the experience of a true northern winter, powerful and unique.
This immersion is designed for those who don’t just want
to face the cold, but who want to understand it, respect it,
and feel perfectly at home in it.
For 2 to 4 days in the heart of the Yukon wilderness, you will discover
the techniques, good habits, and mindset that allow northern inhabitants
to stay safe, confident, and surprisingly comfortable when temperatures drop.
You will learn :
Learn how to build an effective shelter using the materials around you. You will see how to choose the right location, optimize insulation, and create a safe space capable of protecting you from wind, snow, and extreme cold.
To travel in nomadic mode
You will discover essential techniques to move safely: walking on ice while assessing risky areas, progressing with snowshoes, and understanding how to conserve your energy in an environment where every effort counts.
You will be introduced to the basics of ice fishing and the use of simple traps. These survival techniques will help you understand how to find food in nature when resources are limited.
Learn how to start a fire quickly, even in difficult conditions. You will also see how to prevent and recognize frostbite, so you can stay safe when temperatures drop dangerously.
Develop your sense of orientation in the wilderness: reading the terrain, using natural landmarks, moving without a trail, and managing the northern environment.
The goal: to be able to navigate with confidence, even when isolated.

YOUR QUESTIONS
Yes, it is possible to see the northern lights if the sky is clear and solar activity is present. Nothing is ever guaranteed, as it is a natural phenomenon, but winter in the Yukon offers some of the best conditions in the world to witness them.
Even when the auroras don’t appear, winter nights remain incredible: deep skies, total silence, and the magical atmosphere of the Far North.
The immersion is conducted in French and English.
The guide adapts to the group: technical instructions, explanations, and guidance are given in the language each participant understands.
Whether you are a French speaker, English speaker, or have some knowledge of both, you will be able to follow all the steps easily and fully enjoy the experience.
If you want to experience winter as it truly is, unfiltered, and the idea of learning by doing appeals to you more than just watching, then you are definitely in the right place.
If you are ready to accept a bit of discomfort, step out of your usual zone, and face an environment that teaches you a lot about yourself, then this experience is perfect for you.
No need to buy a full set of expedition gear before coming.
We can provide:
– Extreme-cold boots
– Extreme-cold parka
– Mittens suitable for polar temperatures
– Extreme weather snow pants
On your side, plan to bring:
– Thermal layers (merino wool base layers, fleeces, wool leggings, etc.)
A detailed gear list will be sent to you upon booking so you can arrive fully prepared to enjoy the adventure.
Temperatures can range from 32 °F down to -40 °F : (0°C to -40°C)
We always adapt the activities to the weather conditions to ensure the immersion remains safe and enjoyable for everyone.
You need to be able to walk for several hours in the snow, carry equipment, and spend the day outdoors.
You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you should be comfortable with physical effort and movement.
Winter can indeed be extreme. However, this course is supervised and designed for all adventurous spirits: we continuously adapt the program to the group’s level so you can experience winter in its rawest and most intense form, while remaining in controlled, safe conditions.
We focus on simple, warm, and nourishing meals designed for physical effort and cold weather.
Some dishes are prepared in advance at the base camp to save time, while others are cooked directly over the fire at the campsite. You’ll enjoy hot, varied, and balanced meals to maintain your energy throughout the day.
Please let us know at the time of booking about any allergies or special diets (vegetarian, etc.) so we can adapt the menus.
Survival expeditions are intentionally very limited: a maximum of 4 people per group.
This small-group format ensures precise guidance, real-time practice of each technique, and deep immersion in the conditions of the Far North. Here, no crowds: a small team, a vast environment, and an authentic, human-scale experience.
